School Update 40 - 6th May 2020

Today, you can visit the Grantham Journal and read about how the entire school staff have created a video message for our school community with the simple message, ‘We miss you and keep going.’  The ‘Just Be You’ song which was recorded in the Autumn term features all our school children, with images from the school staff.  CLICK HERE to read the Grantham Journal article.

Thank you to all those who have contacted their class teacher, this week.  Unfortunately, we still have a small number of families who have not yet contacted their teacher this week.  If you haven’t already done so, please contact your child’s class teacher this week.  As the school continues to be closed, it is really important that each child/family contacts their class teacher weekly.

This could be simply to:

  • confirm that ‘all is well’ at home and your child is happy with the tasks that they are doing;
  • to share some work with your child’s teacher; or
  • to ask for further support around a particular activity.

The teachers and I remain on-hand to support you through these times.  Please use the e-mails:

It is wonderful to hear how you are getting along at home, with your ‘Home-Learning Work’, and the variety of activity that seems to be happening.  A real ‘pick n mix’ approach covering all aspects of the curriculum.

Please could we ask that parents continue to support their children with:

  • Mental Arithmetic skills, using the Times Tables Rockstars App.  The children will then have the opportunity to practice recalling of the multiplication and associated division facts which is appropriate for their age;

  • Reading fluency and stamina, using a range of reading material e.g. reading books or wider.  The children should be encouraged to read at length for over a period of 10-15 minutes per day and parents should add written comments to their child’s Reading Record;

  • Spelling proficiency, using the online resources on the Class Pages or the Home Learning Guidance.  All children should continue to practice spelling the Curriculum Word Lists which can be found in the Spelling Jotters, there are word lists for: Year 1 and 2, Year 3 and 4, Year 5 and 6;

  • Handwriting:  produce written work, at home, using a joined handwriting style.  Their writing should be evenly sized with clear ascenders (h, k, l) as well as descenders (j, g, p, q).  When working at home, please remind your children about their handwriting and encourage them to do their very best

Don’t forget, every Friday we award Home Learning:

  • Star of the Week Certificates for children/families who have shared good quality work with their class teachers, across the week-paying attention to the above areas.

  • NEW THIS WEEK: Times Table Rockstars Certificates to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our children using the Times Table Rockstars App!
