In PE this week we will be continuing to work on our balancing skills when jumping. We will continue to develop our jumping skills, such as jumping forwards, backwards and from side - to - side, jumping from and landing on two feet. It is not as easy as it sounds.
Activity - Put obstacles around you. Soft cuddly toys would be a good idea! Can you have a go at jumping over them? Remember it is important to land on two feet. Try to jump forwards, backwards and from side - to - side.
Challenge - Try to jump in quarter turns, landing on both feet together. Now try to jump 180 degrees, still landing on two feet. Can you turn this into a game? If you face one direction, listen to which way your adult wants you to jump and try to jump in one quarter or half turns. Remember to listen carefully. Whatever you do, try to stay physically active.
Where in the world is Guatemala? As part of D & T we have been learning about puppets. We have evaluated existing products, identified what type of puppets are available, the materials that they are made from and how they work. We have looked at stick puppets, hand puppets, sock puppets, etc. We have also had a look at Guatemalan worry dolls and plan to make our very own worry puppet.
Activities - Can you look at a world map and identify where Guatemala is? Where is the UK? If you were to fly on an aeroplane, which countries would you fly over? Have a go at creating your own map and try to draw the shapes of the different continents. Label Guatemala and the UK.
We have been busy, practising the songs for the Christmas Nativity. It is very exciting! We have even been learning some sign language!
Activities - Do you know any Christmas songs? Perhaps you already know songs like Jingle Bells, Away in a Manger, When Santa got stuck up the chimney, etc. If you don't it would be lovely to learn these songs so that you can sing them on your return to school. Do you have any musical instruments? Perhaps your could accompany your singing and create a performance for your grown ups. You could even use puppets!
Design and Technology
As you know, we have been thinking about puppets and we cannot wait to create our own Guatemalan worry puppets this week. It is going to be very exciting! We will be using sewing to join the front and back of our worry puppets. Joining techniques are a very important part of D & T.
Activity - Can you find different ways to join materials together? Perhaps you can use glue, or sticky tape, what other techniques can you use? If you would like to make your worry puppets at home, please get in touch and we can send the pack home with any siblings or leave them at the front office for a member of the household to collect.
